This weekend in Durban

Before I started putting these together I really had no idea just how much Durbs had going on every weekend. And I’m amazed. I don’t think the sleepy fishing village moniker is valid anymore. For those who are new to this post, I try to publish one every Friday. If you know of anything I’ve missed or have an event you want me to mention, please leave a comment or email me here.

Right, without further ado, let your PAs know to clear your schedules for the weekend, hold all calls and cancel those meetings because there’s lot’s to do:

We’ve also got the Durban International Film Festival running all weekend and finishing Sunday. For your convenience, I’ve linked to the movie schedules for each day:Friday’s movies
Saturday’s movies
Sunday’s movies

Markets happening:

  • Tonight is the Litchi Orchard Night Market. They’ll have really cool blues and jaz bands playing. They have also very cleverly organised a shuttle from the nearby shopping centre, Tiffanies. So park there and catch your free ride!
  • I heart market will be at the DIFF marquee opposite the Blue Waters hotel on the beachfront on Saturday
  • Sunday is the Wonder Market at Chris Saunders park, Gateway
  • Essenwood & Shongweni will be happening at their usual spots and times – Saturday morning.

If you are up to catching a bit of culture, there is a fun play at the Heritage theatre in Hillcrest called Shaken, not Stirred. It has a really notable cast and comes with food! Further details are as follows:

Show times:
Tuesday – Saturday: Dinner from 7pm, show from 8:30pm
Sunday: Lunch from 12:30pm, show from 2pm
Cost: R165 Tuesday & Sunday | R195 Wednesday to Saturday | 2-course meal included

Showing at Catalina Theatre from 24 – 28 July is Hope Springs, a Rising Star production that has attracted some good reviews. Let’s support our local young up-and-coming actors!  For more info, read here. Tickets R80.
